Eliott Rodriguez, news anchor, rap star!

You know him, you love him, Mr. Excitement and my friend Eliott Rodriguez, news anchor at CBS4, who's been lulling who once lulled Miami audiences to sleep, tells me he has a new gig.

"E-Rod" has launched a new career as a rap star!

Well, sort of. He sent me an e-mail telling me that his voice is "prominently featured" (along with colleague Shomari Stone) on the new album of the socially challenged rapper Foxy Brown.

Click here to listen to a sample. Once you get to the page click on the #1 song sample "Brooklyn's Don Diva"

Don't quit your day job Eliott! ;=)

  1. I found this article on Herald.com. Very interesting.

TVSPY.COM's Shop Talk featured CBS' Shomari Stone and Eliott Rodriguez on June 4, 2008.
The article is by Joan Fleischman at the Miami Herald:

    Pretty Foxy: WFOR-CBS4's Stone, Rodriguez

Cool dudes: WFOR-CBS4's Shomari Stone and Eliott Rodriguez. Their voices -- audio samples from a CBS4 newscast -- are on the title track of rapper Foxy Brown's latest album, Brooklyn's Don Diva. The newsmen were reporting on Foxy's Feb. 16 release from Broward County jail following her arrest in a fight at a Pembroke Pines beauty supply store.

Stone and Rodriguez's voices pop up in the first few seconds of the first cut. Stone was live at Queen Beauty Supply, providing voice-over for footage of her getting out of North Broward Detention Center. Rodriguez was anchoring.

Stone, heard first, says Foxy ''is led out of jail with her friend escorting her to an awaiting cab.'' Then, Rodriguez: ''New video just released within the past several hours shows what led up to the arrest of a popular rap star. Foxy Brown was just released after spending a long night in jail.'' Then you hear Foxy.

Stone and Rodriguez are surprised their audio made the album. ''We had no clue,'' Stone says. They found out after radio personality Supa Cindy talked about it on her morning show on WEDR 99 JAMZ.

Supa Cindy recognized Stone's voice on the CD's promotional copy. 'I said, `My God, that sounds like Shomari.' ''

Koch Records released the album in May -- apparently without permission from CBS to use the copyrighted excerpts, available on CBS4's website. Rodriguez says he's heard the track, peppered with profanity. ``I believe in artistic expression. I just wouldn't let my kids listen to it.''

Foxy, 29, whose name is Inga Marchand, is on six months' probation after pleading no contest in April to misdemeanor battery and resisting arrest without violence. Cops say she threw a temper tantrum at the store, hurled a tube of hair glue at an employee and spit on him. Part of the plea deal required her to attend an anger management course.
