The 2013 Memorial Day Weekend cost Miami Beach taxpayers $1.6 million



Here's Miami Beach city manager Jimmy Morales' 2013 Memorial Day Weekend After Action Report.

A few of the report's highlights:


  • Stats for the May 24 DUI checkpoint on the MacArthur Causeway: 1108 cars checked. 208 tickets issued for various infractions. 26 arrests. 3 DUI arrests. 4 guns seized. 13 vehicles towed.

  • License plate readers scanned and checked 63, 383 plates which resulted in 811 citations being issued and 5 felony arrests.

  • Parking enforcement officers wrote 3,287 tickets and requested 430 "public property tows."

  • Quote: "Actual expenses for the enhanced staffing and operational support for Memorial Day Weekend are estimated at $1,600,000."
